D-day, June 6, 1944, was when more than 160,000 Allied troops landed on the beach in Normandy, France during World War II. According to army.mil more than 9,000 soldiers were killed or wounded there, but it allowed more than 100,000 other soldiers to get through to defeat Hitler.

In June 2014, an 11-year old boy went to Omaha Beach for his personal project called “Project Vigil.” As part of this project, he stood on the beach holding an American flag in on hand and saluting with the other. This was his way of thanking the American, who had given their lives 70 years ago on that very beach. This was awe-inspiring. Watch the video for more details.

He stood on the beach for 90 minutes, until he could no longer stand. Not many 11-year olds would take up such an effort during their summer vacation! He is a one-in-a-million young man. Share away, people.
