We all cried when Old Yeller got rabies and died, he got rabies from a rabid wolf while saving his family! Rabies isn’t a fictitious disease – it can and does kill. Pet owners know that their pets get a rabies vaccine (or boosters) each year. Rabies is a viral infection spread through bites or scratches, and it is preventable.

According to the cdc.gov, 59,000 people die each year after contracting rabies (that is one death every 9 minutes!) Almost 50% of those deaths occur in Africa and Asia with the victims being mostly children under the age of 15. In the video, we see a raccoon with rabies. Animals who have rabies will be hyper-aggressive, and the disease causes increased saliva production (foaming at the mouth.)
