Which came first the chicken or the egg? The age old question! Turns out, to hatch, a baby chicken doesn’t even need an egg! Let’s take a quick look at eggs first. We all know the eggs we eat are unfertilized, the eggs are taken away from the mother as soon as she lays them. If however, the egg is fertilized, a baby chick will grow inside.
The mother chicken will sit on her fertilized eggs for 21 days and keep them warm, the contents of the egg give the growing baby chick everything in needs to grow. Ok, back to hatching without an egg. High school students in Japan demonstrate this phenomenon in the video. The students take fertilized eggs out of the shell and put them in an incubator!
