Canine Parvovirus (parvo for short) is a very contagious viral illness. According to petmd.com, there are two forms of parvo. The more common type is the intestinal form and some the symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea, and weight loss. The other type is the cardiac form, which causes death in puppies (6 weeks to 6 months old) when it attacks the heart muscle.

The disease is easily transmitted between dogs, either through direct dog-to-dog contact or if dogs come into contact with contaminated feces. The virus is even resistant to most cleaners and can live in the soil for up to one year! The video documents the story of Blitzen, a dog taken out of a shelter just before he was euthanized.
