This video, taken by divers in the Philippines, shows an amazing underwater rescue. A Manta Ray has gotten some fishing line wrapped around one of her wings. Manta Rays are classified as a vulnerable species and generally avoid contact with humans. They move their ‘wings’ or pectoral fins up and down to move – they look like they are flying in the water!

Manta Rays are very large animals, ranging from 18 ft – 23 ft in width! Even though she is clearly scared and in pain, this Manta Ray stays until all the fishing line is removed. When the diver has completed his task, she remains with the divers, perhaps her way of saying thank you!

Jane Headley, one of the divers, said that this interaction was the longest and closest they had been able to get with the Manta Rays, so this Manta Ray knew she needed help and that the divers could provide it! Share away, people!
